1
Step
Condition your polymer clay thoroughly. FIMO Professional is recommended for this project to maintain the crispness of the extruded relief details. Extrude thin strands of acid-yellow and hot-pink clay using a clay extruder.
2
Step
Lay the extruded strands in dense, looping squiggles onto thin backing sheets of matching colors. Lightly press them down using an acrylic roller dusted with cornstarch as a release agent, ensuring the organic, brain-like relief texture remains raised and defined.
3
Step
Roll out a thin sheet of translucent polymer clay to serve as a structural backing. Cut out the mirrored yellow scalloped frames and pink wavy bands using paper templates and a sharp craft blade. Position them onto the translucent sheet, leaving the crescent gap open, and trim the excess translucent clay around the borders.
4
Step
Clean the raw contact areas with a damp cotton swab to remove any cornstarch or surface oils before joining. Press the textured pieces firmly onto the translucent backing to create a secure raw bond, smoothing the transitions with a silicone tool.
5
Step
Bake the mirrored halves flat on a ceramic tile in a preheated oven according to the clay manufacturer's instructions. Allow the pieces to cool completely on the tile before handling to ensure they remain perfectly flat and rigid.
6
Step
Drill holes at the center joining tabs and the top outer ends using a hand drill. Clean all gold-tone jump rings and chain components with rubbing alcohol. Assemble the collar by connecting the center tabs with a single jump ring, then attach the outer ends to a gold-plated rope chain with a lobster clasp. Optionally seal with a water-based polyurethane glaze, avoiding solvent-based aerosols.
