Chartreuse and Hot Pink Wavy Buttons

Start with one swirled lemon-yellow-and-hot-pink slab for the whole set, because the image pair shows five small buttons cut from the same wavy faux-bakelite-style pattern rather than five separate stone faces. Mix the swirled slab, cut all five discs from the same blank, then pierce the holes and bake them flat.

Why This Build Works

Five small sew-through buttons share the same lemon-yellow and hot-pink wavy organic swirl pattern, with two centered holes on each face and only a slight dome. The cardigan photo confirms they are light garment buttons, not heavy statement closures.

Build the Button Set

The easiest polymer clay path is a faux-bakelite-style swirl: condition the lemon-yellow and hot-pink clay separately, twist them together loosely, fold once or twice (without fully blending), then roll the resulting marbled slab to button thickness. Keep the swirls distinct rather than smearing them into a flat marble, use a cutter so every button matches, mark the holes while the clay is raw, and build the shine with buffing or a thin gloss only after the set is baked and cleaned.

1
Step

Condition the lemon yellow and hot pink clay separately so neither color is overworked.

2
Step

Twist a yellow rope and a pink rope together loosely, then fold once or twice and press into a slab without fully blending the colors so the swirl bands stay visible.

3
Step

Roll the swirled slab once or twice with thickness guides so it ends at button thickness without smearing the wave pattern flat.

4
Step

Cut every button from that same swirled blank for consistent thickness and color flow, then mark two centered sew-through holes while the clay is raw.

5
Step

Bake flat on a ceramic tile, cool fully, clear the holes, then buff or add a very thin gloss coat only if you still want more shine.

Common mistakes

  • Over-rolling will blur the pink bands and turn the surface muddy.
  • A thick dome makes small cardigan buttons sit proud and feel bulky.
  • Rough holes, lint, or sanding dust will show quickly once you buff or gloss the surface.
