1
Step
Condition your polymer clay. FIMO Professional is ideal for these precise, detail-heavy layers. Roll out a white backing sheet and cut two arch shapes. Roll a yellow sheet to the same thickness, cut two matching arches, and use a smaller arch cutter to hollow them out, leaving a clean yellow frame to layer onto the white backing.
2
Step
Roll a blue sheet of clay and cut two smaller arches to fit inside the yellow frames. Place them onto the white backing. Wipe the contact areas with a damp cotton swab to remove any dust or release agent before pressing the layers together.
3
Step
Roll a thin pink sheet and cut two narrow horizontal strips to serve as the shelves. Position them across the middle of the blue background. Below the shelf, arrange thin vertical strips of pink, yellow, and blue clay to represent book spines.
4
Step
Create the shelf details. Cut a tiny yellow trapezoid for the pot and a small green plant shape with rounded lobes. Position the pot on the shelf with the plant extending upward. Add small pink rectangles on either side of the pot to represent leaning and standing books.
5
Step
Pierce a hanging hole at the top center of each arch using a needle tool or toothpick while the clay is raw. Bake the pieces flat on an unglazed ceramic tile at the recommended temperature, then let them cool completely.
6
Step
Apply a compatible water-based polyurethane glaze like Varathane to seal the earrings and achieve a polished gloss finish. Avoid solvent-based glazes or aerosol sprays. Once dry, use flat-nose pliers to connect a gold-toned fishhook ear wire to each arch using a single gold jump ring.
