1
Step
Condition your polymer clay (Sculpey Soufflé is ideal here for a lightweight, velvety matte finish) until pliable. Roll the yellow, pink, and blue clay on 2.5 mm rails so every linked section starts at the same consistent thickness.
2
Step
Apply a light dusting of cornstarch as a release agent to your cutters, then cut the top discs, the hexagonal links, and the bottom triangles. Use a small square cutter to punch out the center of each hexagon, creating clean, open frames.
3
Step
Clear the connector holes using a hollow metal punch while the polymer clay is still raw, placing holes at the top and bottom of the circles and hexagons, and at the top apex of the triangles. Compare the left and right sets side by side to ensure the spacing matches perfectly.
4
Step
Bake all of the polymer clay pieces flat on an unglazed ceramic tile according to the package directions, using an oven thermometer to ensure temperature accuracy. Cool them fully before proceeding to assembly.
5
Step
If you choose to add a protective finish, apply a compatible water-based polyurethane like Varathane or UV resin. Never use solvent-based glazes or aerosol clear coats, which react with polymer clay plasticizers and become indefinitely sticky.
6
Clean your gold-toned findings with rubbing alcohol. Using flat-nose pliers, open the jump rings with a lateral twist and assemble the stack from the top down
link the ball stud loop to the yellow disc, followed by the yellow, pink, and blue hexagonal links, and finally the blue triangle. Twist the jump rings closed until the ends meet flush.
